Key Privacy Takeaway

Inch Online Ruler does not collect, track, transmit, or monetize your personal information. There are no user accounts, no tracking cookies, no measurement history telemetry, and no third-party behavioral analytics scripts. All calculations occur strictly on your device.

1. Local-First Client Architecture

Inch Online Ruler (inchonlineruler.com) operates as a client-side web utility. When you visit the site, your browser downloads a static bundle consisting of HTML, CSS, and modern JavaScript. Once loaded, all coordinate transformations, canvas drawing routines, pixel-per-inch calculations, and caliper readouts execute exclusively within your local browser runtime.

We have intentionally designed this software so that measuring real-world objects never leaves a digital footprint on our servers.

2. Complete LocalStorage Audit

To provide a seamless user experience, we use your browser's standard HTML5 localStorage API to persist your visual preferences across visits. Below is an exhaustive audit of every key stored:

Storage KeyData TypePurpose
ruler-ppiFloat (e.g. 112.0)Stores your calibrated pixels-per-inch value so you don't have to recalibrate on reload.
ruler-unitString ("in-frac", "cm")Remembers your preferred measurement unit.
ruler-edgesJSON ObjectRemembers active ruler positions (top, bottom, left, right).
ruler-themeString ("light" | "dark")Stores your light or dark mode visual preference to prevent screen flashing.

You can inspect or delete these keys at any moment via your browser Developer Tools (F12 → Application → Local Storage) or by clearing your browser cache.

3. Server & CDN Infrastructure Logs

When your browser requests our web pages, standard HTTP transmission logs are generated by our hosting and Content Delivery Network (CDN) providers (e.g. Cloudflare / Vercel). These standard infrastructure logs may record:

  • Your Internet Protocol (IP) address
  • Your User-Agent header (browser type and operating system)
  • Timestamp of resource requests
  • HTTP status codes (e.g., 200 Success, 404 Not Found)

These logs are used solely for DDoS protection, network reliability monitoring, and routing optimization. They are never combined with measurement data or sold to data brokers.

4. Camera & Device Hardware Queries

Unlike smartphone camera measurement apps, Inch Online Ruler does not request camera access, microphone access, or location permissions.

When you click "Auto-Detect" in the calibration dialog, the tool reads purely standard, non-permissioned viewport metrics exposed to any web page via window.screen.width and window.devicePixelRatio. These parameters are matched locally against a static client-side database; no hardware probe information is transmitted to our servers.

5. Third-Party Analytics & Cookies

We believe utility tools should respect user focus. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, tracking beacons, fingerprinting scripts, or cross-site behavioral retargeting cookies.

Because we do not set non-essential tracking cookies, there is no annoying cookie banner blocking your screen when you want to make an urgent measurement.

6. Your Privacy Rights (GDPR / CCPA / CPRA)

Because we do not maintain user accounts or collect personally identifiable information (PII), we have no personal data databases to search, rectify, or delete. You retain 100% unilateral control: clearing your browser's history or local storage immediately erases any residual trace of your usage.
